STEP 4c: AFFIRM YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF LASER SAFETY
This is a membership requirement. You must check the appropriate box(es) to remain an ILDA Member.

I specifically understand and acknowledge that lasers are inherently hazardous, and that laser safety practices are required whenever a show or display is presented.

Select one of the following two choices. If your company does laser shows (choice #2),
then you must also select the two checkboxes below.

My company does NOT do laser shows. Further, my company does NOT plan to operate, produce or present laser shows in the foreseeable future.
My company does laser shows. We operate, produce, present and otherwise have some or all responsibility for safe operation of a laser display. I agree to the following safety principles:

I have read, and I understand and acknowledge, the Laser Show Safety Basic Principles document detailed on this webpage and summarized below:

As a laser operator and/or producer of laser light shows, I understand and acknowledge the following:
   1. Above any other considerations, a laser show must be safe. This means it must not cause injury (harmful changes) to eyes or skin, potential burn hazards, or non-laser (electrical, mechanical) hazards.
   2. I understand that I am ultimately responsible for the laser show’s safely.
   3. I will not present a show which is hazardous (potentially unsafe), or change or modify a safe show so that it becomes hazardous.
   4. I will not allow others to override safety considerations, such as show producers or clients.
   5. My shows will be continuously monitored by so that hazardous conditions can be detected if they occur. In such a case, the condition will be corrected or the laser emission will be immediately terminated (within a few seconds).
   6. Laser safety standards and guidelines should be followed at all times, including during setup/installation.
   7. I will use backup methods to ensure that if beams do not hit a target, they will not pose a hazard.

   8.
I understand that audience scanning requires the highest level of laser safety knowledge, and requires the most care in design, setup and operation.
   9.
I understand that pulsed lasers should never be used for audience scanning; this includes Q-switched Nd:YAG and Copper Vapor lasers (including Copper Bromide).
  10.
If I do not understand the above-referenced standards (e.g., ANSI and/or IEC), or if I do not have the equipment and procedures to ensure the safety of the audience, I will not do audience scanning.
  11. When doing outdoor shows, I will not illuminate aircraft to cause distraction, veiling glare, or temporary flashblindness of pilots.

I specifically understand and acknowledge that pulsed lasers such as Q-switched Nd:YAG and and Copper Vapor lasers (including Copper Bromide) should, in general, never be used for audience scanning.
